Flux is a FreshEd series where graduate students turn their research interests into narrative-based podcasts. The application period is closed.
Are you a master’s or PhD student who wants to develop your research interests into a narrative-driven episode for FreshEd? Can you imagine your story as a soundscape where you investigate these research interests in complex and creative ways? Then a Flux Fellowship just might be for you!
As a Flux Fellow you will produce a podcast episode that will have a global perspective while focusing on places that are usually under-represented. Your deep-dive storytelling will be informed by ideas and issues at the forefront of educational research. It will be made for an English-speaking audience (but may include other languages that have been translated into English) and will be between 20-30 minutes long.
You will already possess some of the technical skills required to make the episode (such as, audio editing and knowledge of high-quality audio recording), but we can provide you with technical assistance and training, if necessary. You will also be familiar with past seasons of Flux.
We will help motivate, guide and coach you through the process of producing your podcast episode from start to finish. Our boutique learning experience will bring your project to fruition through dedicated mentoring by seasoned academics. Together we will help you develop your initial ideas into a compelling script: constructing interesting narratives, creating soundscapes that complement these stories, while also providing some technical support. Our past Flux Fellows will provide you with valuable insights about their own experiences and you will be encouraged to collaborate with your current cohort to form a supportive community of peers. Best of all: Fellows receive a stipend for their work.
To apply, please send us:
· A written biography about yourself (600 words max.).
· An audio pitch of your ideas for the episode (2 minutes max.).
· Your two-page CV.
